Jacksonville’s Farmers Markets: A Family-Friendly Showdown

If you’re looking for a weekend outing in Jacksonville with the kids, two standout farmers markets are worth a visit: the Riverside Arts Market (RAM) and the Atlantic Beach Farmers Market. Both offer unique experiences, but depending on your family’s needs—especially when wrangling little ones—you may find yourself favoring one over the other.

The Atlantic Beach Farmers Market, held every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Jack Russell Park, is a smaller, more relaxed market that’s easy to navigate with children. Parking is a breeze thanks to the adjacent lot, and the open, spread-out layout makes strolling between vendors simple. Multiple jungle gyms and open play areas mean kids can burn off energy while parents shop. While there’s an excellent selection of fresh produce, baked goods, and artisan items to take home, there aren’t many on-site meal vendors. If you’re looking for a sit-down lunch or a variety of ready-to-eat options, this might not be the best fit—but for a calm, accessible Sunday morning outing, it’s hard to beat.

On the other hand, the Riverside Arts Market, held every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. under the Fuller Warren Bridge, is a bustling hub of activity. With more than 100 vendors, a 350-seat amphitheater, live music, and a food truck “food court,” there’s always something to see, hear, and taste. The variety is unmatched—you’ll find everything from handmade art to fresh produce, gourmet snacks, and hot meals. There are plenty of places to sit, whether at tables or along the ledge overlooking the river, making it easy to take a break. That said, parking can be a challenge and the crowds can feel chaotic, especially with small kids in tow. But if your family enjoys a high-energy atmosphere with endless things to explore, RAM delivers in a big way.

For our family, Riverside Arts Market takes the top spot. Yes, it’s busier and parking is trickier, but the sheer variety of vendors, the food options, and the lively atmosphere make it worth the effort. Still, the Atlantic Beach Farmers Market remains a go-to for a more laid-back experience—especially when we want an easy morning, plenty of playground time, and a quick shop for local goods. In the end, both markets offer their own charm, and the best choice really depends on whether your family is in the mood for calm and convenient or vibrant and adventurous.
