Exploring the World at the World of Nations Festival in Jacksonville (With a Toddler!)

Last weekend, we did something that felt like traveling around the world without ever leaving Jacksonville. We visited the World of Nations Festival, and it turned out to be one of the most fun family outings we’ve had with our toddler.

The World of Nations Celebration is an annual multicultural festival in Jacksonville that brings together cultures from around the world through food, music, art, and performances. Each country has its own tent where you can experience traditional dishes, see cultural displays, and meet people who proudly represent their heritage. The event usually features nearly 30 countries and thousands of visitors, turning the downtown riverfront into a colorful global experience.

Walking through the festival felt like stepping from one country to another every few minutes.

A Fun Family Experience

Even with a toddler, the festival was surprisingly easy to enjoy. The atmosphere was lively but relaxed, with music playing, people dancing, and the smell of incredible food everywhere. There were also family-friendly areas and activities for kids, which made it feel welcoming for families.

Our toddler loved watching the music and dancing from different countries, and there was so much to see that it kept them entertained the entire time.

But let’s be honest — the real highlight for us was the food.

Foods We Tried Around the World

One of the best parts of the festival is trying authentic dishes from different cultures. Every tent had something unique to offer, and we made it our mission to try a few things from countries we had never experienced before.

Here are some of the amazing foods we tried:

🇯🇲 Jamaican Patties

We started with Jamaican patties, which are flaky pastries filled with seasoned meat. They were warm, savory, and packed with flavor — a perfect handheld snack while walking around the festival.

🇵🇸 Warbat from Palestine

Next we tried Warbat, a traditional Middle Eastern dessert. It was sweet, creamy, and soaked in syrup, almost like a layered pastry filled with custard. Definitely a treat!

🇦🇷 Empanadas & Alfajores from Argentina

Argentina’s tent was a favorite.
We had empanadas, which are delicious pastry pockets filled with savory fillings, and alfajores, soft cookies filled with dulce de leche and dusted with powdered sugar. They were amazing.

🇨🇲 Fufu with Egusi & Folere from Cameroon

One of the most interesting dishes we tried was from Cameroon: Fufu with Egusi.
Fufu is a soft, dough-like staple that you eat with soup. The Egusi soup had rich flavors and spices, and the Folere drink (made from hibiscus) was refreshing and slightly sweet.

🇹🇷 Gozleme from Turkey

We also tried Gozleme, a Turkish flatbread filled with spinach and cheese. It was cooked fresh and served warm, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

A Festival That Brings the World Together

What makes the World of Nations festival special is how it celebrates Jacksonville’s diversity. Each country shares a small piece of its culture — through food, clothing, music, and stories — creating an experience that feels both educational and fun.

Instead of traveling thousands of miles, you can simply walk from tent to tent and experience flavors and traditions from across the globe.

Final Thoughts

Going to the World of Nations Festival with our toddler turned out to be such a great family outing. It was fun, colorful, and full of amazing food. We left with full stomachs, happy memories, and a new appreciation for cultures from around the world.

If you’re in Jacksonville and looking for something unique to do with your family, this festival is definitely worth adding to your list.

Next year, we’re going back — and we’re bringing bigger appetites.
